The Gurudwara Sahib is commenced on July 6th 2025, with the selfless seva of Sikh Community of Columbus Georgia, and S. Kulwant Singh , Balwant Singh, Baljinder Singh, Jaswant Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Deep Singh, Tejpal Singh, Kiran Nayyar, and All other volunteers.In the main hall (Diwan Hall) of a Gurdwara Sahib,
Sikhs gather to sing sacred hymns (Kirtan) from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scripture), listen to readings, and participate in communal prayers (Ardaas), all while sitting on the floor as a symbol of equality. The Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a raised platform, and devotees bow before it, offering donations, listening to musicians (Raagis), and showing deep respect for the divine teachings.
Activities and Rituals
- Kirtan & Gurbani: Musicians (Raagis) sing devotional hymns (Gurbani) from the scriptures, accompanied by instruments, creating a meditative atmosphere.
- Hukamnama: A daily command or message is read from the Guru Granth Sahib.
- Bow & Offering: Visitors remove shoes and cover their heads, then bow before the Guru Granth Sahib, placing offerings (money, food) on the platform as a sign of submission to the teachings.
- Communal Prayer (Ardaas): A collective prayer is recited by the priest, followed by the Hukamnama.
- Seating: Everyone sits on the floor (often cross-legged), typically men on one side and women on the other, to emphasize equality and focus. Benches are sometimes available for the elderly or infirm.
